Kodiak Saltery River

On August 9th. George, Bruce, Chuck and I went on a guided quad tour to fly fish the remote Saltery River on Kodiak Island. It was a rough and scenic 16 mile ride through the back country. We crossed several running and dry streams while climbing through the mountains to get to the isolated Ugok Bay area. This was a very long and fun day.

It was a rough and scenic 16 mile ride through the back country. We crossed several running and dry streams while climbing through the mountains to get to the isolated Ugok Bay area. This was a very long and fun day. We enjoyed horsing around on the quads. We often stopped to enjoy the picturesque views and pick and eat wild Salmon and Blue berries that were growing along the trail. When we got to the Saltery River it lived up to it’s reputation of holding large populations of fresh Red Salmon. Our group had no problem catching a limit that yielded 65lbs. of delicious Red Salmon filets. Reds are fun to catch. When you first hook them they take off like a rocket and blast out of the water. Fun, Fun, Fun…and so delicious raw or cooked.

The following is an assortment of photos taken on that day trip.
