Kenai Peninsula – Alaska

My first visit to Alaska was with George Large in June 2000. We fished the pristine Kenai Peninsula. It is a very beautiful place to fish. We chose to spend the first couple days unwinding at a remote fly-in cabin on Crescent Lake where we fished for Dolly Varden.

It is a very beautiful place to fish. We chose to spend the first couple days unwinding at a remote fly-in cabin on Crescent Lake where we fished for Dolly Varden. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, but, after the second day we looked forward to some bigger fish and a hot shower. A float plane picked us up and took us to the prestigious Kenai River Sports Fishing Lodge. It is the best lodge on the Kenai Peninsula. Everything about their operation is first class. With 22 hours of sunlight in June we had plenty of time each day to do everything we wanted. We went from fly fishing for Rainbow Trout to fishing for King Salmon on the lower Kenai River in the same day. We went offshore one day for Halibut and Silver Salmon. On that trip we caught a 350lb. Salmon Shark. Salmon Shark is delicious. On another day I had the pleasure of witnessing George Large catch a huge King Salmon on his fly rod. (the locals said it couldn’t be done) What a great trip!
